Caroline County to wit I hereby Certify that I delivered to
Negro Jim the eighth day of March Eighteen hundred
and eleven a certificate a copy of which is as follows

             State of Maryland Caroline County to wit
Whereas a certain negro Jim otherwise called James
heretofore to wit on the fifth day of March eighteen
hundred and five was manumited by William Wheeler
of Caroline County to be free from and after the first
day of January eighteen hundred and eleven as by
the said manumission remaining of record in Caroline
County Court reference being thereto had will appear
    And whereas the said negro man named Jim otherwise
called James hath made application to me for a
certificate of his freedom agreeably to the act of
assembly and upon the Oath of William Wheeler
that the said negro man named Jim otherwise called
James is the Identical person who was manumited
as aforesaid.  I do hereby certify that the said
negro man named Jim otherwise called James
is five feet five Inches high of a Black complexion
and of a pleasing Countenance has several flesh
large flesh marks on his breast and has lost
three or four of his fore teeth and no other
particular marks which I can discover
                In Testimony whereof I have hereto
(County)   set my hand and affix the public
(     seal)   seal of my office this eighth day
                of March in the year of our Lord
                one thousand eight hundred and eleven
