Caroline County to wit  Be it remembered that on the sixteenth day
of July Eighteen hundred and ten I delivered to Negro Joseph
a certificate a Copy of which is as follows vizt

    State of Maryland Caroline County to wit  Whereas a certain
negro man named Joseph heretofore to wit on the twelfth day of
February in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and
five was manumited by White Turpin of Caroline County
to be free from and after the first day of January Eighteen
hundred and nine as by the said manumission remaining
of Record in Caroline County Court will more fully appear
And whereas the said negro man named Joseph hath
made application to me for a certificate of his freedom
agreeably to the act of assembly and upon the Oath of
Mr Warner Busteed that the said negro man named Joseph
is the Identical person who was manumited as aforesaid
I do hereby Certify that the said negro man named Joseph
is five feet five and one half Inches high of a Black
complexion was raised in Caroline County has his left eye
put out by the Limb of a tree when Cutting wood and
no other notable marks which I can discover
                            In Testimony whereof I have hereto set
    (County)           my hand and affixed the public seal
    (     seal)           of my office this sixteenth day of
                            July Eighteen hundred and ten
