38 Caroline County to wit. Be it remembered that on the twentieth day of February Eighteen hundred and ten I delivered to mulatto William Johnson a certificate a Copy of which is as follows Vizt State of Maryland Caroline County to wit Whereas application hath been made to me by a mulatto man named William Johnson for a Certificate agreeable to an act of Assembly of the said state passed at November session Eighteen hundred and five by which said act free negroes and mulatto's are permitted to travel out of the said state upon their obtention of their being freeborn. And whereas also upon the Oath of William Summers Esquire Gentleman of the County aforesaid that the mulatto man named William Johnson was freeborn; I do therefore hereby Certify that the said mulatto man named William Johnson is five feet two Inches high of a yellow Complexion was born and raised in the County of Caroline has a large scar on the back part of his left arm above his elbow occasioned by a scald and no other marks which I can discover In Testimony whereof I have hereto (County) set my hand and affixed the public seal ( Seal ) of my office this twentieth day of February in the year of our Lord One thousand eight hundred and ten Tho Richardson Clk of Caroline County Court |
