37 . Caroline County ss.t Be it remembered that on the fifteenth day of January Eighteen hundred and ten I delivered to Negro Joseph a Certificate a copy of which is as follows to wit State of Maryland Caroline County to wit Whereas a certain negro man named Joseph heretofore to wit; on the twenty ninth day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and five and manumitted by Nicholas Loveday of Talbot County to be free from and after the first day of January Eighteen hundred and ten and by the said manumission remaining of Record in Caroline County Court reference being thereto had will more fully and at large appear And Whereas the said negro man named Joseph hath made application to me for a certificate of his freedom agreeably to the act of assembly and upon the Oath of James Willson (of Daniel) of Talbot County that the said negro man named Joseph is the Identical person who was manumited as aforesaid; I do hereby certify that the said negro man named Joseph is of a black Complexion was raised in Talbot County is five feet Eight and one fourth Inches High has a SCar on the thumb of his left hand and also on the left leg one near the Knee and the other on the out side of the Calf of his leg occasioned those on his leg from a Burn and no other notable marks which I can discover. In Testimony whereof I have hereto set my hand and affixed the public seal of my office this fifteenth day (seal) of January in the year of our Lord one thousand Eight hundred and ten Tho Richardson Clk Caroline County Court |
