Caroline County to wit  Be it remembered that on the
first day of January Eighteen hundred and ten I
delivered to Negro Nero a certificate a Copy of which
is as follows vizt

   State of Maryland Caroline County to wit  Whereas
a certain negro man named Nero heretofore to wit  On
this first day of January in the year of our Lord one
thousand Eight hundred and ten was manumitted by
Doctor Robert Stevens of Caroline County to be free from
and after the date of his manumission as by the said
manumission remaining of Record in Caroline County
Court reference being thereto had will more fully
and at large appear:  And whereas the said negro
man named Nero hath made application to me for
a certificate of his freedom agreeably to the act of
assembly and upon the Oath of Doctor Robert Stevens
that the said negro man named Nero is the identical
person who was manumitted as aforesaid; I do
hereby Certify that the said negro man named Nero
is from the age expressed in the said manumission
about thirty three years of age of a black complexion
was raised in Caroline County is five feet
three and one quarter inches high has a scar
on the Thumb of his right hand occasioned by
a whitlow and no other notable marks which
I can discover
                      In Testimony whereof I have hereto
                set my hand and affixed the public
    (Seal)   seal of my office this first day of
                January in the year of our Lord one
                thousand Eight hundred and nine
