Caroline County ss.t  Be it remembered that on the thirteenth
day of September Eighteen hundred and nine I delivered to
negro Alce a Certificate a Copy of which is as follows

State of Maryland Caroline County to wit  Whereas a Certain
negro woman named Alce heretofore to wit on the twenty seventh
day of August seventeen hundred and ninety one was manumited
by Benjamin Blunt of Caroline County to be free from
and after the first day of January one thousand seven hundred
and ninety four as by the said manumission remaining of
Record in Caroline County Court reference being thereto had
will appear:  And whereas the said negro woman named
Alce hath made application to me for a Certificate of her
freedom agreeably to the act of Assembly and upon the Oath
of M.r Benjamin Blunt that the said negro woman named
Alce is the Identical person who was manumited as aforesaid
I do hereby Certify that the said negro woman named Alce
is five feet four Inches high of a Black Complexion was
raised in the State of Delaware has no notable marks
which I can discover supposed from the Oath of M.r Blunt
to be from thirty Eight to forty years of Age

In Testimony whereof I have hereto set my hand and
Affixed the public seal of my office this thirteenth day of
(seal)   September in the year of our Lord one thousand
