County to be free from and after the first day of January
Eighteen hundred and nine as by the said manumission
remaining of Record in Caroline County Court reference being
thereto had will appear:  And whereas the said Negro
woman named Kate hath made application for
to me for a Certificate of her freedom agreeably to the
act of Assembly and upon the Oath of Doctor Robert Stevens
that the said negro woman named Kate is the identical
person who was manumated as aforesaid:  I do hereby
Certify that from the age expressed in the said manumission
that the said negro woman named Kate is about twenty
years of age five feet high Black Complexion was raised
in Caroline County near hunting Creek has a scar on the
end of her fore finger on her right hand occasioned by a
Cyder mill and no other notable marks which I can
discover         In Testimony whereof I have hereto set
(Seal)         my hand and affixed the public seal of my
                  office this fifth day of June in the year of our
                  Lord one thousand eight hundred and nine
                        Tho Richardson Clk Caroline County Court


Caroline County ss.t  Be it remembered that on the twentieth
day of June Eighteen hundred and nine I delivered to Negro
Peter a Certificate a Copy of which is as follows to wit
State of Maryland Caroline County to wit.  Whereas a Certain negro
man named Peter heretofore to wit on the seventh day of June
Eighteen hundred and three was manumitted by John Mitchell
Gentleman of Caroline County to be free from and after the first
day of January Eighteen hundred and eight as by the said manumission
remaining of record in Caroline County Court reference
being thereto had will appear; And whereas the said negro man
named Peter hath made application to me for a Certificate
