26 State of Maryland Caroline County to wit Whereas a Certain negro man named Washington heretofore to wit on the second day of June in the year Eighteen hundred and two was manumated by Charles Blair Gentleman of Caroline County to be free from and after the first day of January Eighteen hundred and six; as by the said manumission remaining of Record in Caroline County Court reference being thereto had will appear And whereas the said negro man named Washington hath made application to me for a Certificate of his freedom agreeable to the act of Assembly and by the Oath of Doctor Robert Stevens that the said Negro Man named Washington is the Identical person who was manumated as aforesaid I do hereby Certify that from the age expressed in the said manumission that the said negro man named Washington is about thirty two years of Age five feet ten and a half Inches high dark Complexion was raised in Caroline County near Hunting Creek has a scar on the left Jaw occasioned by a bile and a small scar under his left eye and no other notable mark which I can discover And I further Certify that the said negro man Washington at the same time made Oath that in October Eighteen hundred and seven on his passage from Baltimore in a heavy Gale of wind he lost a Certificate of his freedom obtained by me from me on the twenty ninth day of July Eighteen hundred and six out of his pockett Book with other paper and money In Testimony whereof I have hereto set my hand (Caroline) and affixed the public seal of my office this ( County ) thirteenth day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand Eight hundred and nine Tho Richardson Clk of Caroline County Court |
