application and hereby certify that according to his own account will be
Forty seven years of age the Fifteenth day of December next about five feet
three inches high of a brown complexion was born and raised in Caroline County and
has a long scar just below his ^left^ cheek bone that reaches nearly from his mouth to
his ear and no other notable mark or scar that I have observed
             In Testimony whereof I hereto subscribe my name and affix the
(seal)     public seal of my office this 14th day of March Anno Domini

State of Maryland Caroline County to wit;  Whereas application hath been made to me
by a coloured young man named Wilson Groce for a certificate of his freedom agreeably to the
act of assembly in such case made and provided by which said act free negroes and molattoes
are permitted to travel out of this state upon the obtention of a certificate of being free
born and whereas also upon the oath of Joseph Talbott of Caroline County that the said
Coloured man named Wilson Groce for whom this certificate is made was free born
I do therefore grant his said application and hereby certify that according to his own
account was Twenty years of age in October last about five feet six inches high
of a molatto complexion was born and raised in Caroline County and has a long scar
lengthwise on the inside of his right hand between the hand and wrist joints of his
thumb and no other notable marks or scars that I have observed      In Testimony
           whereof I hereto subscribe my name and affix the public seal of my
(seal)   office this 20th day of March anno Domini 1827

freedom agreeably to the act of assembly in such case made and provided by
which said act free negroes and molattoes are permitted to travel out of this State
upon the obtention of a certificate of being free born and whereas also upon the oath
of John Thompson of Caroline County that the said coloured girl named Anna
Downes for whom this certificate is made was free born I do therefore grant her
said application and hereby certify that according to her own account she is
Nineteen years of age or thereabouts about five feet two inches high of a
