223 application and hereby certify that he was Twenty one years of age the Twenty fifth day of December Eighteen hundred and Twenty five about five feet seven and a half inches high was born and raised in Caroline County and of a brown complexion has a scar ^small^ of a cut on the right side of his chin and another small scar of a cut lengthwise on the left hand over the joint of the thumb next to the wrist his face Considerably marked with pits of the chicken pox and no other notable mark or scar that I have observed In Testimony whereof I hereto subscribe my name and affix the public seal (seal) of my office this 3d day of March anno Domini 1827 Jo Richardson Clk of Cost 50 Cts Caroline County Court State of Maryland Caroline County to wit; Whereas heretofore to wit on the Thirtieth day of May in the year of our Lord Eighteen hundred and fifteen a certain James Boon of Caroline County by Deed of Manumission duly executed and acknowledged and recorded among the land records of Caroline County did manumit and set free a certain negro boy named William to be free on the fifteenth day of september Eighteen hundred and Twenty six and the said negro boy now a man named William having made application to me for a certificate of his freedom agreeably to the act of assembly in such case made and provided and whereas also upon the affirmation of Jacob Leverton of Caroline County that the said negro man named William for whom this certificate is made is the same person in the mentioned in the said manumission I do therefore grant his said application and hereby certify that he is five feet three inches high or thereabouts was Twenty one years of age in the month of september last was born and raised in Caroline County and of a black complexion has a long slim scar over his right eye and and no other notable marks or scars that I have observed In Testimony whereof I hereto subscribe my name & affix the public seal of my office (seal) this 6th day of March anno Domini 1827 Jo Richardson Clk of Cost 50 Cts Caroline County Court State of Maryland Caroline County to wit: Whereas application hath been made to me by a coloured man named Joseph Shepherd for a certificate of his freedom agreeably to the act of assembly in such cases made and provided by which said act free negroes and molattoes are permitted to travel out of this state upon the obtention of a certificate of being free and whereas also upon the oath of Jesse Cox of Caroline County that the said Coloured man named Joseph Shepherd for whom this certificate is made was free born I do therefore grant his said |
