222 that the said negro man named James for whom this certificate is made is the same person mentioned in the said Manumission I do therefore grant his said application and hereby certify that he is five feet eight inches high or thereabouts and from his age as expressed in the Manumission was about Twenty five years of age the first day of August last was born and raised in Caroline County and of a black complexion has s scar of a cut on his forehead over his left eye and another scar of a cut on his cheek under the left eye and another scar of a cut on the inside ancle of his right foot and no other notable mark or scar that I have observed (seal) In Testimony whereof I hereto subscribe my name and affix the public seal of my office this 29th day of December Anno Domini 1826 Cost 50 cts Jo Richardson Clk of Caroline County Court State of Maryland Caroline County to wit; Whereas application hath been made to me by a coloured young man named James Friend for a certificate of his freedom agreeably to the act of Assembly in such cases made and provided by which said act free negroes and molattoes are permitted to travel out of this state upon the obtention of a certificate of being free born; And whereas also upon the affirmation of Thomas Stanton of Caroline County that the said coloured young man named James Friend for whom this certificate is made was free born; I do therefore grant his said application and hereby certify that according to his own account he is nineteen years of age or thereabouts about five feet six and a quarter inches high of nearly a black complexion was born and raised in Caroline County and has a scar of a cut on the second joint of his from the end of his right great toe and another small scar obliquely across the middle finger of his left hand between the second and third joints from the end and no other notable mark or scar that I have observed In testimony whereof I hereto subscribe my name and affix the public (seal) the seal of my office this 13.th day of January 1827 Jo Richardson Clk of Caroline County Court State of Maryland Caroline County to wit: Whereas application hath been made to me by a coloured man named Isaac Hooper for a certificate of his freedom agreeably to the act of assembly in such case made and provided by which said act free negroes and molattoes are permitted to travel out of this state upon the obtention of a certificate of being free born and whereas also upon the oath of Martha Warner of Caroline County that the said Coloured man named Isaac Hooper for whom this certificate if made was free born I do therefore grant his said |
