travel out of this state upon the obtention of a Certificate of being free born
And whereas also upon the Oath of Nathan Hunter of Caroline County that
the said coloured woman named Elizabeth Tilghman for whom this Certificate
is made was free born.  I do therefore grant her said application
and hereby Certify that she is Twenty seven years of age or thereabouts about
five feet nine and a quarter inches high was born and raised in Caroline
County and of a molatto complexion has a small scar about five eighths
of an inch long a little above the left corner of her mouth a small scar
of a burn on the top of her left arm below the elbow joint and a natural
mark on the upper end of the calf of her right leg just below the
knee joint and no other notable mark or scar that I have discovered
             In Testimony whereof I hereto subscribe my name & affix the
(seal)     public seal of my office this 21st day of November Anno

State of Maryland Caroline County to wit;  Whereas application hath been
made to me by a coloured girl named Mary Jolly for a certificate of her
freedom agreeably to the act of assembly in such case made and provided
by which said act free negroes and molattoes are permitted to travel out of
this state upon the obtention of a certificate of being free born.  And whereas
also upon the Oath of Peter Satterfield of Caroline County that the said
coloured girl named Mary Jolly for whom this Certificate is made was
free born.  I do therefore grant her said application and hereby certify
that she is sixteen years of age or thereabouts about five feet three inches
high of a molatto complexion was born and raised in Caroline County
and has a small round scar like a pit of the small pox on her left temple
and no other notable scar mark or scar that I have discovered
observed.   In Testimony whereof I hereto subscribe my name & affix
(seal)   the public seal of my office this 21st day of November Anno
            Domini 1826   Jo Richardson Clk of Caroline County Court

upon the Oath of Thomas Stanton of Caroline County that the said coloured
girl named Anna Groce for whom this Certificate is made was free born
    I do therefore grant her said application and hereby Certify that she is
