three years of age or thereabouts says she was born and raised in Caroline
County she is five feet three and a half inches high and of a Complexion
nearly black has a small scar on the top of her right forehead in the edge
of her hair and a scar of a pustule of the chicken pox under the right
eye and no other notable mark or scar that I have discovered
                      In Testimony whereof I hereto subscribe my name and
(seal)              affix the public seal of my office this 7th day of October Anno

    State of Maryland Caroline County to wit;  Whereas heretofore to wit:  On
the Twenty seventh day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred
and ninety a certain Isabel Jump of Caroline County by Deed of manumission
duly executed acknowledged and recorded among the Land records of Caroline
County did manumit and set free a certain negro woman named Rachel
to be free and at her liberty when she should arrive at the age of Twenty three years
and the said negro woman named Rachel having made application to me
for a Certificate of her freedom agreeably to the act of assembly in such case made
and provided.  And whereas also upon the Oath of Shelby Jump of Caroline County
that the said negro woman named Rachel for whom this Certificate is made
is the same person mentioned in the said manumission.  I do therefore
grant her said application and hereby Certify that she is five feet and one
inch high or thereabouts about thirty nine years of age the 27th day of May
last was born and raised in Caroline County and of a dark brown complexion
has a scar of a burn on the right side of her said face near the lower part of
her nose another scar of a burn over her right eye brow and a small scar
of a bite on the top of her thick part of her left arm below the elbow joint and
no other notable mark or scar that I have discovered
                In Testimony whereof I hereto subscribe my name & affix the
(seal)        Public seal of my office this 24th day of October Anno Domini

State of Maryland Caroline County to wit  Whereas application hath been
made to me by a coloured woman named Elizabeth Tilghman for a certificate
of her freedom agreeably to the act of assembly in such case made and
provided by which said act free negroes and molattoes are permitted to
