           In Testimony whereof I hereto subscribe my name and affix
(seal)   the public seal of my office this 16th day of September anno Domini
            1826                     Jo Richardson Clk of Caroline County Court

State of Maryland Caroline County to wit:  Whereas heretofore to
wit on the twenty seventh day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand
seven hundred and ninety a certain Isable Jump of Caroline County
by deed of manumission duly executed acknowledged and recorded among
the land records of Caroline County did manumit and set free a certain
negro girl named Sarah to be free and at her liberty when she should
arrive to the age of twenty three years and the said negro girl (now a
woman) named Sarah having made application to me for a certificate
of her freedom agreeably to the act of assembly in such case made
and provided:  And whereas also upon the oath of Peter Jump of Caroline
County that the said negro woman named Sarah for whom this certificate
is made is the same person mentioned in the said manumission
I do therefore grant her said application and hereby certify that she
is five feet two and a quarter inches high or thereabouts and from her
age as stated in the manumission was forty three years of age the
twenty seventh day of May last was born and raised in Caroline
County and of nearly a black complexion has seven scars of burns
on the back of her right arm above the elbow and one small scar
of a bite crosswise on the inside of her right arm about half way
between the wrist and elbow joints and no other notable mark
or scar that I have observed
             In Testimony whereof I hereto subscribe my name and affix
(seal)     the public seal of my office this eighteenth day of September
             Anno Domini eighteen hundred and twenty six
