says she was seventeen years of age the 19th day of February last born and
raised in Caroline County and of a dark molatto complexion has a scar
obliquely across her nose several scars of a burn on her her left cheek one of
which is near the corner of her left eye several more scars of a burn on the
left side of her chin near the corner of her mouth and one large scar of a
burn across the upper part of the right arm and another on the back of the
same arm near the wrist and no other notable mark or scar that I
have discovered.   In Testimony whereof I hereto subscribe my name
             & affix the public seal of my office this 2d day of August Anno

State of Maryland of Caroline County to wit:  Whereas heretofore to wit on the
Thirteenth day of November in the year of our Lord One thousand eight hundred
and Twenty three a certain John Mitchell of Dorchester County by Deed of
manumission duly Executed acknowledged among and recorded among the
Land Records of Caroline County did manumit and set free a certain
negro man named Bill to be free from and after the date of the said manumission
And the said negro Boy named Bill having made application to me for
a Certificate of his freedom agreeably to the Act of Assembly in such case made
and provided and whereas also upon the Testimony of William Potter
of Caroline County that the said negro boy named Bill for whom this certificate
is made is the same person mentioned in the said manumission.  I do therefore
grant his said application and hereby Certify that he is five feet three inches
high or thereabouts says he is seventeen years of age was born and raised in Caroline
County and of a black complexion has a large scar of a cut across the joint of
his left knee occasioned (as he says) by the Cut of a scythe Blade and no other
notable mark or scar that I have discovered      In Testimony whereof I
           hereto subscribe my name & affix the public seal of my office this 5th day
(seal)   of August Anno Domini 1826                        Jo Richardson Clk of
