I hereto subscribe my name & affix the public seal of my office this 1st day of
(seal)   august Anno Domini 1826   Jo Richardson Clk of Caroline County Court

State of Maryland Caroline County to wit:  Whereas heretofore to wit:  on
the Fifteenth day of October seventeen hundred and ninety two a certain
Joshua Barwick of Caroline County by Deed of manumission duly executed
acknowledged and recorded among the land records of Caroline County did
manumit and set free a certain negro woman named Sarah her freedom
to commence and take effect from and after the seventh day of February
seventeen hundred and ninety six.  And the said negro woman named Sarah
having made application to me for a certificate of her freedom agreeably to
the act of assembly in such case made and provided.  And whereas also
upon the testimony of Rosanah Barwick of Caroline County that the said
negro woman named Sarah for whom this Certificate is made is the same
person mentioned in the said manumission.  I do therefore grant her said
application and hereby Certify that she is about Fifty years of age five feet
high or thereabouts was born and raised in Caroline County and of a dark
brown complexion has a large scar of a burn on the under part of her right arm
and another scar of a scald in the joint of her left arm and no other notable
mark or scar that I have discovered.   In Testimony whereof I hereto subscribe
                my name & affix the public seal of my office this 2d day of

State of Maryland Caroline County to wit:  Whereas application hath been
made to me by a coloured woman named Betsey Stanton for a Certificate
of her freedom agreeably to the Act of Assembly in such case made and
provided by which said Act free negroes and molattoes are permitted to
travel out of this State upon the obtention of a certificate of being free
born.  And whereas also upon the Oath of Elizabeth Ross of Caroline County
that the said coloured woman named Betsey Stanton for whom this
Certificate is made was free born.   I do therefore grant her said application
and hereby Certify that she is five feet one & a half inches high
