205 State of Maryland Caroline County to wit; Whereas heretofore to wit: On the Twenty fourth day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and one a certain WIlliam Poets of Caroline County by Deed of manumission duly executed acknowledged and recorded among the land records of Caroline County did manumit and set free a certain negro woman named Sarah to be free and at perfect liberty immediately after the date of the said manumission. And the said negro woman named Sarah now calling herself Sarah Jackson having made application to me for a Certificate of her freedom agreeably to the act of assembly in such case made & provided: And whereas also upon the affirmation of Moses Boon of Caroline County that the said negro woman named Sarah Jackson for whom this Certificate is made is the same person mentioned in the said manumission I do therefore grant her said application and hereby Certify that from his age as expressed in the said manumission she was forty seven years of age the ^twenty^ sixth day of January last about five feet & an half inch high born & raised in Caroline County and of a black complexion has a long crooked scar on her forehead above the inner part of her left eye and a round natural mark under the outer corner of the same eye & no other notable mark or scar that I have discovered In Testimony whereof I hereto subscribe my name & affix (seal) the public seal of my office this 24th day of July Anno Domini 1826 Jo Richardson Clk of Caroline County Court Cost 50 cts State of Maryland Caroline County to wit: Whereas application hath been made to me by a negro woman named Rhoda Tilghman for a Certificate of her freedom agreeably to the act of assembly in such case made and provided by which said act free negroes and molattoes are permitted to travel out of this state upon the obtention of a Certificate of being free born. And whereas also upon the Oath of John Talbott of Caroline County that the said negro woman named Rhoda TIlghman for whom this Certificate is made was free born I do therefore grant her said application and hereby Certify that she is about twenty years of age about five feet four and a quarter inches high of a dark brown complexion was born and raised in Caroline County and has a scar of a cut on the thick part of her left arm about three inches below the elbow & several other scars on the same arm & no other particular marks or scars that I have discovered.
