             In Testimony whereof I hereto subscribe my name & affix the public seal
(seal)     of my office this 23d day of June Anno Domini 1826

State of Maryland Caroline county to wit  Whereas application hath been made to me by a
negro lad named Solomon Bell for a certificate of his freedom agreeably to the act of assembly
in such case made and provided by which said act free negroes and molattoes are permitted
to travel out of this State upon the obtention of a certificate of being free born.  And whereas
upon the oath of Nimrod Andrew of Caroline County that the said negro lad Solomon
Bill for whom this certificate is made was free born.  I do therefore grant his said
application and hereby certify that he is five feet seven and a quarter inches high or thereabouts
says he will be Twenty one years of age the 1st day of January next was
born and raised in Caroline County nearly of a black complexion has a scar on the
finger next to the little finger of the right hand nearly in the shape of a V another
scar on the outer end of the right eye brow and a large scar of a bite on the outer side
of his right leg and no other notable scar or mark that I have discovered
             In Testimony whereof I hereto subscribe my name and affix the public

to the act of assembly in such case made and provided by which said act free
negroes and molattoes are permitted to travel out of this state upon the obtention
of a certificate of being free born.  And whereas upon the Oath of mrs Rachel David
of Caroline County that the said negro lad Moses Smith for whom this certificate
is made was free born.  I do therefore grant his said application and hereby
Certify that he is five feet two and a quarter inches high or thereabouts says he
will be Eighteen years of age the Twenty seventh day of October next was born
and raised in Caroline County of a black complexion has a scar of a cut on
the outside of the small of his right leg and a scar of a burn on his right
breast and no other notable mark or scar that I have discovered
               In Testimony whereof I hereto subscribe my name & affix
    (seal)   the public seal of my office this 7th day of July Anno Domini
