State of Maryland Caroline County to wit:  Whereas heretofore to wit:  On the fourth
day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and ninety
six a certain Roger Fountain of Caroline County by Deed of manumission duly
executed acknowledged and recorded among the land records of Caroline County
did manumit and set free a certain negro boy called Jeremiah Johnson to be
free and at perfect when he should arrive at the age of Twenty five and
the said negro (now a man) having made application to me for a certificate
of his freedom agreeably to the act of assembly in such case made and
provided;  And whereas also upon the Oath of the said Roger Fountain that
the said negro man named Jeremiah Johnson for whom this certificate is
made is the same person mentioned in the said manumission.  I do therefore
grant his said application and hereby certify that he is Thirty years of
age or thereabouts about five feet two and three quarter inches high of a
dark molatto complexion was born and raised in Caroline County and
has a scar on the left side of his forehead caused as he says by the kick
of a horse and no other notable mark or scar that I have discovered
                   In Testimony whereof I hereto subscribe my name & affix the
(seal)           Public seal of my office this 10th day of July Anno Domini 1826

State of Maryland Caroline County to wit:  Whereas application hat been made to
me by Solomon Prattis negro for a Certificate of his freedom agreeably to the act of assembly
in such case made and provided by which said act free negroes and molattoes are
permitted to travel out of this state upon the obtention of a Certificate of being free born
And whereas upon the oath of John Sharp of Caroline County that the said negro man
named Solomon Prattis for whom this Certificate is made was free born.  I do therefore
grant his said application and hereby Certify that he is five feet Eight and three
quarter inches high or thereabouts says he was twenty two years of age the Eleventh day
of may last was born and raised in Caroline County and has a small scar on
his forehead directly above his nose and no other notable mark or scar that I have
discovered & he is of a black Complexion.  In Testimony whereof I hereto
(seal)            subscribe my name & affix the Public seal of my office this 18th day
