Caroline County Court, Certificates of Freedom, 1806-1827

State of Maryland Caroline County to wit:  Whereas application hath been
made to me by a negro woman named Nicey Boston for a certificate of her
freedom agreeably to the Act of assembly in such cases made and provided
by which said act free negroes and molattoes are permitted to travel out of this
State upon the obtention of a Certificate of being free born And whereas upon
the Oath of John Evitts of Caroline County that the said negro woman named
Nicey Boston for whom this Certificate is made was free born.  I do therefore
grant her said application and hereby Certify that she is five feet high or
thereabouts says she was Twenty two years the of age the Twenty sixth of
April last was born and raised in Caroline County of a dark molatto complexion
has a small scar on her forehead over her left eye a tolerable
large scar on her right temple the end of her right middle finger injured
and almost without a nail and another large scar of a burn on the top of
her right foot and no other notable mark or scar that I have discovered
In Testimony whereof I hereto subscribe my name & affix the public seal
(seal)      of my office this Thirteenth day of June Anno Domini 1826

to the Act of assembly in such cases made and provided by which said act free
negroes and molattoes are permitted to travel out of this state upon the obtention of a
Certificate of being free born and whereas upon the oath of Peter Johnson of Caroline County
that the said negro woman named Kitty Ross for whom this certificate is made was
free born:  I do therefore grant her said application and hereby Certify that she is five feet
three inches high or thereabouts says she is about twenty six years of age bor and raised
in Caroline County and of a dark brown Complexion has a scar of a cut across the
bridge of his nose a natural mark about the size of a half Dollar on the inner part
of her left arm a little below the elbow joint and another scar of a cut across the
inner part of her right wrist and no other notable mark or scar that I have discovered
observed.   In Testimony whereof I hereto subscribe my name and affix the
(Seal)         public seal of my office this thirteenth day of June anno Domini 1826
