             In Testimony whereof I hereto subscribe my name and affix the public
(seal)     seal of my office this 29th day of April Anno Domini 1826

    State of Maryland Caroline County to wit  Whereas Application hath been
    made to me by a coloured man named Isaac Friend for a certificate of his
    freedom agreeably to the act of assembly in such case made and provided by
which said act free negroes and molattoes are permitted to travel out of this state
upon the obtention of a Certificate of being free born.  And whereas also upon the
testimony of Daniel Peter Richardson of Caroline County that the said coloured
man named Isaac Friend for whom this certificate is made was free born
I do therefore grant his said application and hereby certify that he is five feet
six and three quarter inches high or thereabouts says he will be Twenty four
years of age the Eighth day of June next was born and raised in Caroline
County of a black complexion has a scar on the corner of his left eye
and another scar of a Cut up and down the ridge of his nose extending
nearly half way down to the end of his nose and no other notable mark
or scar that I have discovered.   In Testimony whereof I hereto
             subscribe my name and affix the public seal of my office

    State of Maryland Caroline County to wit  whereas heretofore to wit on the first day of
    March in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and nineteen a certain Will
    Chilton of Caroline County by Deed of manumission duly executed acknowledged
    and recorded among the Land records of Caroline County did manumit and set free a
    certain negro man named Robert to be free and at perfect liberty from and after the date
    of the said Manumission and the said negro man named Robert now calling himself
    Robert Bond having made application to me for a certificate for his freedom agreeably
    to the act of assembly in such case made and provided and whereas als^o^ upon the
    Oath of Abraham Griffith of Caroline County that the said negro man named
    Robert for whom this Certificate is made is the same person mentioned in
    the said manumission  I do therefore grant his said application and
    hereby Certify that he is five feet six & three quarter inches high or thereabouts
    about thirty four years of age was born and raised in Caroline
