And the said negro woman named Sarah having made application to me
for a certificate of her freedom agreeably to the act of assembly in such case
made and provided.  And whereas also upon the Oath of Jenifer S. Taylor
of Caroline County that the said negro woman named Sarah is the same
negro woman mentioned in the said manumission.  I do therefore grant
her said application and hereby certify that from the age expressed in the
said manumission she is about thirty eight years of age she is about
four feet ten and a quarter inches high of a black complexion was born
and raised in Caroline County and has a large scar on her right arm between
the wrist & elbow on the inside thereof another scar on her left wrist
on the under part of the joint thereof another scar on the back part of
her left hand which nearly covers it (the above scars occasioned by burns)
the little finger of her left hand crooked and another scar on the finger
next the little one occasioned by a whitlow as she says and no other
notable mark or scar that I have discovered            In testimony
             whereof I hereto subscribe my name & affix the public seal of my
(seal)     office this 25th day of July Anno Domini 1825

                                   The second Certificate of Freedom
State of Maryland Caroline County to wit;  Whereas on the fourth
day of May eighteen hundred and twenty two Abraham Baynard
of Caroline County by Deed of Manumission duly executed acknowledged
and recorded amongst the land records of Caroline County
did manumit and set free a certain negro man named
Joseph Baynard to be free from the date of the said manumission
And the said negro man named Joseph Baynard having
made application to me for a certificate of his freedom agreeably
to the act of assembly in such case made and provided
And whereas also upon the oath of Abraham Baynard of
Caroline County that the said negro man named Joseph
Baynard for whom this certificate is made is the same
person mentioned in the said manumission.  I do therefore
grant his said application and hereby certify that the
said negro man named Joseph Baynard is twenty four
years of age or thereabouts he is about five feet nine and
