168 State of Maryland Caroline County to wit; Whereas heretofore to wit; on the Thirteenth day of September in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty four a certain Elizabeth Banning HIcks of Caroline County aforesaid by deed of manumission duly executed acknowledged and recorded among the Land records of Caroline County did manumit and set free a certain negro woman named Hannah (otherwise called Hannah Wilson) to be free and at liberty from and after the date of the said manumission And the said negro woman named Hannah (otherwise called Hannah Wilson) having made application to me for a certificate of her freedom agreeably to the act of assembly in such case made and provided. And whereas also upon the Oath of Giles Hicks of Caroline County that the said negro woman named Hannah (otherwise called Hannah Wilson) for whom this Certificate is made is the same person mentioned in the said manumission. I do therefore grant her said application & hereby certify that she is thirty years of age or thereabouts she is about five feet one and a quarter inches high of a dark brown complexion ( nearly black) was born and raised in Caroline County and has a large scar on the upper part of her left arm between the shoulder and elbow joints cut as she says by a corn stalk and just below another small scar where she was vaccinated and two other scars of cuts on the under side and crossways the same arm between the elbow and wrist joints and another small scar lengthways on the same arm partly between the last two mentioned scars but rather higher on the arm and no other mark or scar worth discribing In Testimony whereof I hereto subscribe my name & affix the public seal of my office this 14th day of September Anno Domini 1824 Jo Richardson Clk of Caroline County Court cost 50 Cts State of Maryland Caroline county to wit; Whereas heretofore to wit; on the Twenty third day of December in the year of our Lord one thousand eight ^seven^ hundred and ninety nine a certain Sarah Hardcastle and Solomon Kenton of Caroline County by deed of manumission duly ^executed^ acknowledged ^& recorded^ among the Land records of Caroline county did manumit and set free a certain negro woman named Dafney to be free and at perfect liberty on the first day of January eighteen hundred and twenty three and the said negro woman named Dafney having made application to me for a certificate of her freedom agreeably to the act of assembly in such case made and provided And whereas also upon the oath of Jabez Caldwell of Caroline County that the said negro woman named Dafney for whom this Certificate is made is the same person mentioned in the said manumission. I do therefore grant her said application and hereby certify that she is twenty six years of age or thereabouts she is about four feet eleven inches high of a complexion nearly black was born and raised in Talbot County and has a small scar of a cut on the joint of her |
