           In Testimony whereof I hereto subscribe my name & affix the
(seal)   public seal of my office this 19th day of april A D 1824
                                                Jo Richardson Clk of Caroline County Court


State of Maryland Caroline County to wit;  Whereas application hath been made
to me by a negro girl named Hester Stanton for a Certificate of her freedom
agreeably to the act of assembly in such case made and provided by which
said act free negroes and molattoes are permitted to travel out of this state upon
the obtention of a Certificate of being free born And whereas also upon the Oath
of Stephen Lucas of Caroline County that the said negro girl named Hester
Stanton for whom this Certificate is made was free born
       I do therefore grant her said application and her hereby Certify that she
will be twenty years of age in October next or thereabouts she is about four
feet ten and a half inches high of a dark complexion was born and
raised in Caroline County and has a scar of a burn on the top part of
the left arm little below the elbow and no other mark or scar that
I have discovered               In Testimony whereof I hereto subscribe
          my name & affix the public seal of my office this 1st day of
(seal)  May Anno Domini 1824

made to me by a negro man named Nathaniel Groce for a certificate of his freedom
agreeably to the act of assembly in such case made and provided by which said act free
negroes & molattoes are permitted to travel out of this state upon the obtention of a
Certificate of being free born.  And whereas also upon the oath of Ann ^John^ Wilson of
Caroline county that the said negro man named Nathaniel Groce for whom this
certificate is made was free born   I do therefore grant his said application
and hereby certify that he is five feet five inches high or thereabouts he is
about thirty years of age of a complexion ^nearly black^ complexion was born an
raised in Caroline county and he is blind in his right eye occasioned
by a burn and no other mark or scar that I have observed
                   In Testimony whereof I hereto subscribe my name
    (Seal)      & affix the public seal of my office this 18th day of May
                   Anno Domini 1824
