State of Maryland Caroline County to wit.  Whereas on the Eighth day of
April Eighteen hundred and six Ann Kenton of Caroline County by deed
of manumission duly executed acknowledged and recorded among the
land records of Caroline County did manumit and set free a certain negro
woman named Sarah to be free and at perfect liberty on the first day of
January Eighteen hundred and two And the said negro woman named
Sarah having made application to me for a certificate of her freedom agreeably
to the act of assembly in such case made and provided; And
whereas also upon the Oath of Ann Robinson of Caroline County that the
said negro woman named Sarah for whom this Certificate is
made is the same person mentioned in the said manumission
I do therefore grant her said application & hereby Certify that from
the age expressed in the said manumission she is thirty eight
years of age or thereabouts she is about five feet two inches high
of a dark brown complexion was born and raised in Caroline
County and has a scar of a burn on the back part of her right
wrist & a long scar obliquely across the same wrist caused
as she says by the scratch of a brier & no other notable mark
or scar that I have observed                        In Testimony whereof
             I hereto subscribe my name & affix the public seal of
(seal)     my office this 13th day of April Anno Domini

of April 1824 Thomas Councell ^of Caroline^ by deed of manumission duly executed acknowledged
and recorded among the land records of Caroline County did manumit and
set free a certain negro woman named Jane to be free & at perfect liberty from the
date of the said manumission and the said negro woman named Jane having
made application to me for a certificate of her freedom agreeably to the act of assembly
in such case made and provided  And whereas also upon the Oath of the said
of Thomas Councell   that the said negro woman named Jane for
whom this Certificate is made is the same person mentioned in the said manumission
I do therefore grant her said application and hereby certify that from her
age as expressed in the said manumission she was thirty three years of age
in September last she is about four feet Eleven inches ^& an half^ high of a light black
complexion was born & raised in Caroline County & has a scar on her right arm
above the elbow also a scar on the same arm caused by a burn between
the elbow and wrist and also two lumps or protuberances on her breast
which has the appearance of cancer and no other mark or scar that
I can discover
