State of Maryland Caroline County to wit   Whereas on the
                         Eighteen hundred &                                    of
by Deed of Manumission duly executed acknowledged and recorded amongst the lane
records of Caroline County did manumit and


Maryland Caroline County to wit;   Whereas application hath been
made to me by a negro woman named Mary Ann Sharp for a
Certificate agreeably to the act of Assembly in such case made and
provided by which said act free negroes & Molattoes are permitted
to travel out of this State upon their obtention of a Certificate of
being free born.  And whereas also upon the affirmation of William
Emerson of Caroline County that the said negro woman named Mary
Ann Sharp for whom this Certificate is made was free Born
        I do therefore grant her said application and hereby Certify
that she is five feet five inches high or thereabouts of a black complexion
was born and raised in Caroline County she is between
Eighteen & nineteen years of age and has a small scar on the left
side of the end of her nose caused by a Cut and a small scar
on the Ball of the middle finger of her left hand & no other mark
or scar that I can discover         In Testimony whereof
[seal]            I hereto subscribe my name & affix the public seal
of my Office this 14th day of June Anno Domini 1823
