State of Maryland Caroline county to wit;  Whereas on the Fifth day of March
Eighteen hundred and two Joseph Talbott of Caroline County by deed of Manumission
duly executed acknowledged and recorded amongst the Land records of Caroline
County did manumit & set free a certain Negro woman named sarah to be
free on the first day of July in the year aforesaid and the said negro woman
named Sarah having made application to me for a Certificate of her freedom
agreeably to the Act of assembly in such case made d provided and whereas
also upon the testimony of Samuel Hardcastle of Caroline County that the said
^negro^ woman named Sarah for whom this Certificate is made is the same person
mentioned in the said Manumission.  I do therefore grant her said application
and hereby Certify that the said negro woman named Sarah is Fifty
years of age or thereabouts she is about five feet and one Inch high of a
Brown Complexion was born & raised in Caroline County she has a small
Scar on the wrist of her left hand & no other notable scar or mark That
I have observed.   In Testimony whereof I have hereunto sub^scribe^ my hand
            name & affix the Public Seal of my office this 12th day of May

State of Maryland Caroline County to wit:  Whereas on the Twenty ninth day of
May in the year of our Lord eighteen hundred & twenty three Nehemiah Saulsbury
of Caroline County by deed of manumission duly executed acknowledged and recorded
amongst the land records of Caroline County did manumit and set free a certain negro
man named Samuel (otherwise called Samuel Hutchins to be free from the date
of the said manumission and the said negro man named Samuel Hutchins having
made application for a certificate of his freedom agreeably to the act of assembly in
such case made and provided and whereas also upon the Oath of the said Nehemiah
Saulsbury that the said negro man named Samuel Hutchins for whom this Certificate
is made is the same person mentioned in the said manumission.  I do therefore
grant his said application and hereby Certify that the said negro man named
Samuel Hutchins is twenty four years of age or thereabouts he is about five feet
six inches high of a black complexion was born and raised in Caroline
County and has a small scar on his left cheek something like a pit of the small
pox and no other notable mark or scar that I have observed
          In Testimony whereof I hereto subscribe my name and affix the public
(seal)  seal of my office this 29.th day of May Anno Domini 1823
