State of Maryland Caroline county to wit, Whereas on the second day of
June in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and two Charles
Blair of Caroline county by deed of manumission duly executed acknowledged
and recorded amongst the land records of Caroline county did manumit
and set free a certain negro woman named Lucy to be free on the first
day of January Eighteen hundred and three and the said negro woman
named Lucy having made application to me for a certificate of her freedom
agreeably to the Act of Assembly in such case made and provided and
I being satisfied by the Oath of Seth Prouse of Caroline county that
the said negro woman named Lucy for whom this certificate is made
is the same person mentioned in the said manumission I do there
fore grant her said application and hereby Certify that the said
negro woman named Lucy is twenty four years of age or thereabout
she is about five feet one and a quarter inches high of a complexion
nearly black was born and raised in Caroline County
and has a long scar partly across the inside of her left wrist and
no other mark or scar that I have observed
              In Testimony whereof I hereto subscribe my name and
  (seal)   affix the public seal of my office this 30th day of May

    State of Maryland Caroline County to wit; Whereas application hath been
made to me by a molatto man named Andrew Freeman for a Certificate of
his freedom agreeably to an Act of the General Assembly of Maryland passed at
December session Eighteen hundred and five by which said act free negroes and
molattoes are permitted to travel out of this state upon the obtention of a certificate
of being free born  And whereas also upon the Oath of Tapence Virden of Caroline
County that the said negro man named Andrew Freeman for whom this
Certificate is made was free born   I do therefore grant his said application
and hereby certify that he is five feet ten inches high or thereabouts will be
thirty three years of age in January 1823 was born and raised in Caroline
County of a molatto complexion has black curly hair & pitted or marked
with the small pox and no other mark or scar that I have observed
             In Testimony whereof I hereto subscribe my name and affix
(seal)     the Public seal of my office this 6th day of July Anno Domini
