State of Maryland Caroline county to wit, Whereas on the Twelfth day of January
Eighteen hundred and five Samuel Talbott of Caroline county by deed of manumission
duly executed acknowledged and recorded amongst the land records of Caroline county
did manumit and set free a certain negro man named Daniel to be free when
he should arive at the age of Twenty five years and the said negro man named Daniel
having made application to me for a certificate of his freedom agreeably to the act
of assembly in such case made and provided, And whereas also upon the oath
of William Chillton of Caroline county that the said negro man named
Daniel for whom this Certificate is made is the same person mentioned in the said
manumission I do therefore grant his said application and hereby Certify that
the said negro man named Daniel is twenty five years of age or thereabouts he
is about five feet six and an half inches high of a molatto complexion was born
and raised in Caroline county and can read print; has no remarkable scars or
marks that I have observed      In Testimony whereof I hereto subscribe
                 my name and affix the public seal of my office this 9th
    (seal)    day of July anno Domini 1822

October Eighteen hundred and twenty Rachel Rhodes of Caroline County by
Deed of manumission duly executed acknowledged & recorded amongst the
Land records of Caroline county did manumit and set free a certain negro
man named Samuel otherwise called Samuel Slaughter to be free ^&^ at liberty
from the date of the said manumission  And the said negro man named
Samuel otherwise called Samuel Slaughter having made application to me
for a certificate of his freedom agreeably to the act of assembly in such case made
and provided.  And I being satisfied of my own personal knowledge that
the said negro man named Samuel otherwise called Samuel Slaughter
for whom this certificate is made is the same person mentioned in the
said manumission I do therefore grant his said application and do
hereby certify that the said negro man named Samuel otherwise called
Samuel Slaughter is thirty years of age or thereabouts he is about five feet
seven inches high of a black complexion   was born and raised in Caroline
county and has a small scar over his left eye brow and the thumb of his right hand
injured ^by a whitlow^ and no other mark ^or scar^ that I have observed   In Testimony whereof
I hereto subscribe my name and affix the Public Seal of my office this 3d
(seal)   day of april anno Domini 1822
