State of MAryland Caroline county to wit:  Whereas on the thirty first day
of January Eighteen hundred and Twenty one Rachel Rhodes of Caroline
county by deed of manumission duly executed acknowledged and recorded
amongst the records of Caroline County did manumit and set free a
certain negro woman named Nancy (otherwise called Nancy Sharp) to be
free at her death and the said Rachel Rhodes now being dead and
the said Nancy Sharp having made application to me for a certificate
and provided and being satisfied of my own personal knowledge
that the said negro woman named Nancy Sharp for whom this certificate
is made is the same person mentioned in the said manumission
I do therefore grant her said application and hereby certify that the
said negro woman named Nancy Sharp is thirty one years of age or
thereabouts she is about five feet three and three quarter inches high
of a black complexion was born and raised in Caroline County
has no remarkable scar or mark that I can discover
(Caroline)   In Testimony whereof I hereto subscribe my name and
(  county )   affix the public seal of my office this 17.th day of October

hundred and twenty one Rachel Roads of Caroline County by deed of manumission duly
executed acknowledged and recorded amongst the records of Caroline County did manumit and
set free a certain negro man Ned (otherwise called Edward Clark) ti be free at her
death and the said Rachel Roads now being dead and the said Edward Clark having
made application to me for a certificate of his freedom agreeably to the act of assembly
in such case made and provided and I being satisfied of my own personal knowledge
that the said negro man named Edward Clark for whom this certificate is made is the same
person mentioned in the said manumission.   I do therefore grant his said application
and hereby Certify that the said negro man named Edward Clark is twenty three years
of age or thereabouts he is about five feet seven and three quarter inches high of a black complexion
was born and raised in Caroline County has a very small scar across his left
eye brow and another small round mark a little above it and no other remarkable
scar or mark that I have observed
                         In Testimony whereof I hereto subscribe my name and affix the public
    (seal)         seal of my office this fifteenth day of January Anno Domini 1822
