State of Maryland Caroline County to wit  Whereas application
hath been made to me by a negro man named Thomas Wright
for a certificate of his freedom agreeably to an Act of the General Assembly
of Maryland passed at December Session Eighteen hundred and five by
which said act free negroes & molattoes are permitted to travel out of this
State upon the obtention of a certificate of being free born and whereas
also upon the Oath of Elizabeth Lyden of Caroline County that
the said negro man named Thomas Wright for whom this certificate
is made was free born  I do therefore grant his said application
and hereby Certify that he is five feet and five inches high
or thereabouts about twenty two years of age last March in the year
Eighteen hundred and Twenty one was born in Caroline County
and raized in Talbot County of a dark brown Complexion
lame in his right leg the little finger on his right hand
Crooked and no other notable mark or scar that I have observed
(Caroline)   In Testimony whereof I hereto subscribe my name
( County )   and affix the public seal of my office this 13th
                   day of august Anno Domini 1821

State of Maryland Caroline County to wit.  Whereas application hath
been made to me by a molatto man named John Dunagan for a certificate
of his freedom agreeably to an act of the General assembly of Maryland
passed at December session Eighteen hundred and five by which said act
free negroes and molattoes are permitted to travel out of this state upon
the obtention of a certificate of being free born and whereas also upon the
Oath of John Grinnage of Caroline County that the said negro man named
John Dunagan for whom this Certificate is made was free born I do therefore
grant his said application and hereby Certify that he is five feet Eight &
a half inches high or thereabouts will be Twenty five years of age
in March 1822 was born and raised in Caroline County of a molatto
Complexion has a small natural reddish brown mark on the under
part of his left arm between the wrist and Elbow joint and a small scar
obliquely across the middle joint of his right forefinger cut as he
says by a sythe and no other remarkable scar or mark that I have observed
                   In Testimony whereof I hereto Subscribe my name and
    (seal)       affix the public seal of my office this 24th day of august
                   Anno Domini 1821
