negro girl named Rachel for whom this Certificate is made is the same
person mentioned in the said manumission I do therefore grant her said
application and hereby certify that from the age expressed in the said manumission
the said Rachel was twenty years of age the Twenty fifth day of
April last past she is about five feet one and a half inches high or there
abouts of a dark brown complexion was born in Talbot and raised in
Caroline County has a small perpendicular scar on the right side of
her forehead and in the edge of her wool and a small horizontal scar
on the left side of her neck and no other particular mark or scar
that I have discovered
             In Testimony whereof I hereto subscribe my name and
             affix the public seal of my office this 4th day of October Anno

State of Maryland Caroline County to wit  Whereas on the Twenty
fifth day of October in the year of our Lord One thousand seven
hundred and ninety one Mary Nicols and Henry Nicols 3.d of Caroline
County by deed of manumission duly executed acknowle^d^ged and recorded
amongst the records of Caroline County did manumit and set free a
certain negro girl named Esther to be free on the first day of January
Seventeen hundred and ninety two.  And whereas the said negro girl
(now a woman) named Esther hath made application to me for a
certificate of her freedom agreeably to the Act of Assembly in such
case made and provided and being satisfied by the Oath of Henrietta
Byrn of the County aforesaid that the said negro girl named Esther
for whom this Certificate is made is the same person mentioned in
the said manumission.  I do therefore grant her said application and
hereby Certify that the said Esther is Sixty seven years of age or thereabouts
she is about five five high of a black complexion was born and
raised in Caroline County has a small scar on the thick part of
her left arm and no other remarkable scar or mark that I have
discovered
(Caroline)   In Testimony whereof I hereto subscribe my name
( County )   and affix the Public seal of my Office this 9th day of December
