one inch high or thereabouts about twenty years of age born and raised
in Caroline County her complexion is nearly black has a small scar
on the inside of her right wrist and lengthwise the wrist and has no
other notable mark or scar that I have discovered.  In Testimony
Whereof I have hereunto set my hand and the public seal of my
             office affixed this 24th day of May Anno Domini 1819

State of Maryland Caroline county to wit
                                                               Whereas application hath
been made to me by a negro woman named Mary Bell for a certificate
of her freedom agreeably to an act of the general assembly of Maryland
passed at November session eighteen hundred and five by which
said act free negroes and mulattoes are permitted to travel out of this
state upon their obtention of a certificate of being free born; And whereas
as also upon the oath of Frederick Holbrook of Caroline county aforesaid
that the said negro woman named Mary Bell for whom this certificate
is made was free born I do therefore grant her said application
and hereby certify that she is  five feet two and three quarter inches
high or thereabouts nineteen years of age the first day of May last
past was born in Talbot county and raised in Caroline county of a dark
brown (approaching to black) complexion has two small scars on
her left cheek which she says was occasioned by a burn when she was
a child and has no other notable scar or mark that I have observed
             In testimony whereof I have hereto subscribed my name and
(seal)     affixed the public seal of my office this 1st day of June Anno
             Domini 1829     Jo Richardson Clerk of Caroline county to wit


Maryland Caroline County to wit  Whereas application hath been
made to me by a molatto man named Philip Dickinson Jr for a
certificate of his freedom agreeably to an act of the General
Assembly of Maryland passed at November session Eighteen
hundred and five by which said act free negroes and molattoes
are permitted to travel out of this state upon their obtention of a
certificate of being free born and Whereas also upon the oath
of Richard Hughlett of Caroline County afs.d that the said
