State of Maryland Caroline County to wit  Whereas on the twenty fourth
day of December in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and
sixteen Anthony Whitely of said county by deed of manumission duly
executed acknowledged and recorded amongst the records of Caroline County
did manumit and set free a molatto woman named Henny to be free from
the date of said manumission as it appears of record and whereas the said
Henny has made application to me for a certificate of her freedom agreeably
to the act of assembly in such case made and provided and I being satisfied
by the oath of William M.cDonald of the county aforesaid that the
said molatto woman named Henny for whom this certificate is made is
the identical person mentioned in said manumission I do therefore grant
her said application and hereby certify that from the age expressed in
said manumission she is now in her twenty sixth year of age five feet four
inches high or thereabouts was born and raised in Caroline county her
complexion a bright molatto and no notable mark or scar that I have
discovered.   In Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and the
public seal of my office affixed this 7.th day of April Anno Domini 1819

Maryland Caroline County to wit  Whereas heretofore ^to^ wit on the twenty
ninth day of May eighteen hundred and five Nicholas Loveday of
said county by deed of manumission duly executed acknowledged and
recorded amongst the records of Caroline County did manumit and
set free a negro woman named Esther to be free and at perfect liberty
from and after the first day of January eighteen hundred and six
and whereas the said negro woman named Esther hath made
application to me for a certificate of her freedom agreeably to an
act of assembly in such case made and provided and I being satisfied
by the oath of M.rs Elizabeth Lyden of said county that
the said negro woman named Esther for whom this certificate is
made is the person mentioned in the said manumission I do
therefore grant her said application and hereby certify that she is
five feet four inches high or thereabouts supposed to be about forty
eight years of age was born and raised in Talbot County her
complexion nearly black has lost all her fore teeth and no other
notable marks or scar that I have observed
