scar on the right side of his mouth and a peice cropt of his
left ear which scars he says he received by fighting when a
boy there is no other notable marks that I have observed
                In Testimony whereof I have hereto set my hand and
    (Seal)       affixed the public seal of my office this tenth day
                      of December in the year of our Lord Eighteen hundred
                      and Eighteen      Jo Richardson Clk of
                                           Caroline County Court


State of Maryland caroline county to wit  Whereas application
hath been made to me by a negro man named Levi for
a certificate of his freedom agreeably to an act of the General
Assembly of Maryland passed at November session Eighteen
hundred and five by which said act free negroes
and mollattoes are permitted to travel out of this State
upon their obtention of a certificate of being free born
and whereas also upon the affirmation of James Wilson
of Caroline county aforesaid that the said negro man
Levi for whom this certificate is made was free born I
do therefore grant his said application and hereby certify
that he is five feet seven inches high or thereabouts
aged about twenty two years his complexion dark brown
colour was born & raised in Caroline County has a knot
on the knuckle joint of his left fore finger and no other
notable mark that I have observed   In Testimony
whereof I have hereunto set my hand and the public
                   seal of my office affixed this twenty first day
    (Seal)         of January A. D. eighteen hundred and
                         Nineteen               Jo Richardson Clk of
                                                    Caroline County Court


State of Maryland Caroline county to wit  Whereas on
the twenty seventh day of January in the year of our Lord
one thousand eight hundred and nineteen Jeremiah Rhoads
of Caroline county by deed of Manumission duly executed
acknowledged and recorded amongst the records of Caroline
County did manumit and set free a molatto man named
James Dobson to be free from the date of said manumission
as it appears of record and whereas the said James
