118 State of maryland Caroline County to wit; Whereas application hath been made to me by a molatto boy named Joseph Trusty for a certificate of his freedom agreeably to an act of the General assembly of maryland passed at November Session eighteen hundred and five by which said act free negroes and molattoes are permitted to travel out of this State upon their obtention of certificate of being free born. And whereas also upon the affirmation of Joseph Anthony of Caroline County aforesaid that the said molatto boy Joseph Trusty for whom this certificate is made was free born I do therefore grant his said application and hereby certify that he is three feet four inches high or thereabouts was three years of age the twenty fifth day of March eighteen hundred and eighteen of a molatto complexion was born in Caroline County has the mark of a burn on his back between the shoulders and rather nearest to the right shoulder and no other notable mark or scar that I have observed In Testimony whereof I have hereto set my hand and affixed the public seal of my (Seal) office this 27.th day of July Anno Domini 1818 Jo Richardson Clerk of Caroline County Court State of Maryland Caroline county to wit. Whereas heretofore to wit on the second day of June in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and two a certain Charles Blair of Caroline county aforesaid by deed of manumission duly executed and recorded did manumit and set free a certain negro boy called Stephen to be free and at liberty on the first day of January eighteen hundred and seventeen And whereas the same negro boy (now a man) called Stephen has made application to me for a certificate of his freedom agreeably to the act of assembly in such |
