State of Maryland   Caroline County to wit; Whereas application
hath been made to me by a molatto man named Stephen
Trusty senior for a certificate of his freedom agreeably to an act
of the General assembly of Maryland passed at November session
Eighteen hundred and five by which said act free negroes
and molattoes are permitted to travel out of this state upon their
obtention of a certificate of being free born and whereas also upon
the affirmation of Joseph Anthony of Caroline County aforesaid
that the said molatto man named Stephen Trusty senior for
whom this certificate is made was free born I do therefore grant
his said application and hereby certify that he is five feet ten inches
and a quarter of an inch high or thereabouts says he is sixty three
years of age the twenty eighth day of march last of a dark
molatto complexion has lost most of his upper fore teeth has
a small scar on the second Joint of his left thumb in shape
something like this mark T was born and raised in Kent
County in the state of maryland and has resided about twenty
Eight years in Caroline County & State aforesaid and has no
other notable mark or scar that I have discovered
                In Testimony whereof I have hereto set my hand
(Seal)       and affixed the public seal of my office this 27.th
                day of July Anno Domini 1818
