108 obtention of a certificate of their being free born. And whereas also upon the oath of James Harrisson that the said negro John Hynson was free born. I do therefore hereby certify that the said negro John Hynson is five feet eight & a quarter inches high or thereabouts says he is twenty one years of age in June next of a dark molatto or brown complexion was born & raised in Caroline county has a scar on the knuckle joint of right fore finger and the middle finger of his right hand crooked in the knuckle joint so that he cant straighten it as he can the other fingers of the same hand and no other notable mark that I have observed In Testimony whereof I have hereto set (seal) my hand affixed the public seal of my Office this 27.th day of April anno Domini 1818 Jo Richardson Clk of Caroline County Court State of Maryland Caroline county to wit Whereas heretofore to wit on the fifth day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and eighteen a certain Richard Hughlett a of Caroline county aforesaid by deed of Manumission duly executed & recorded did manumit & set free a certain negro man called Benjamin Seney has made has made application to me for a certificate of his freedom agreeably to the act of assembly in such case made and provided and I being satisfied by the oath of the said Richard Hughlett that the said negro man Benjamin Seney for whom this certificate is made is the identical negro man mentioned in the said manumission do ^therefore^ grant his said application and hereby certify that the said negro man Benjamin Seney is five |
