State of Maryland Caroline County to wit:  Whereas Thomas
Carney hath made application to me for a certificate of his freedom
agreeably to law:  and whereas on the oath of William Barcus has been
proven that said Thomas Carney was free born & raised in Caroline
County five feet five and one half inches high or thereabouts of a
Chesnutt Complexion & has a small Scar on his forehead between his
eyes and has no other notable mark or scar that I have observed
(seal)   In Testimony Whereof I hereunto Subscribe my name and affix
          the Seal of the Circuit Court for Caroline County this 14th day of
March Anno Domini 1860

Carney hath made application to me for a certificate of his freedom agreeably
to law:  and whereas on the oath of William Barcus has been proven that
Said William Henry Carney was free born and raised in Caroline County &
is five feet Six inches high or thereabout and about twenty five years of
age and has a scar on the back of his hand under the hair of a dark
Chesnut Complexion
(Seal)   In Testimony Whereof I hereunto Subscribe my name and affix the Seal
       of the Circuit Court for Caroline County this 14th day of March Anno
