Caroline County Circuit Court, Certificates of Freedom, 1857-1864

State of Maryland Caroline County to wit:   Whereas Bertha Ann
Fountain hath made application to me for a certificate of her
freedom agreeably to Law.  and whereas on the oath of Joseph Turner
has been proven that the said Bertha Ann Fountain was free born.  I do
therefore grant this certificate.   She is now about ninteen years of age
Five feet five inches high or thereabout of a mulatto complexion was
born and raised in Caroline County and has a Scar on the right
Side of her neck caused by a burn and has no other notable mark
or scar that I have observed
             In Testimony whereof I hereunto Subscribe my name and affixed
(Seal)    the Seal of the Circuit Court for Caroline County this Eighteenth
             day of May Anno Domini Eighteen hundred and fifty nine

State of Maryland Caroline County to wit   Whereas William Prattiss
hath made application to me for a certificate of his freedom agreeably
to Law.  and whereas on the oath of Levin Wright has been
proven that the said William Prattis was free born   I do therefore
grant this certificate  He is now about twenty two years of age
five feet three inches high or thereabout of a chestnutt complexion
and was born raised in Caroline County and has no notable mark
or Scar that I have observed
    (Seal)                  In Testimony whereof I hereunto Subscribe
            my name and affix affix the Seal of the Circuit Court
       for Caroline County this 24th day of May Anno Domini 1859
