Caroline County Circuit Court, Certificates of Freedom, 1857-1864

State of Maryland Caroline County to wit   Whereas Sarah
Elizabeth Freeman hath made application to me for a Certificate
of her freedom agreeably to law.  and whereas on the oath of
Samuel Cooper hath been proven that the said Sarah Elizabeth
Freeman was free born I do therefore grant this Certificate
She is now about twenty one years of age five feet Six and
three quarter inches high or thereabouts of a Chesnut Complexion
has a Scar on her right foot caused by a burn; also one
over her right eye and has no other notable marks or Scars that
I have observed
                            In Testimony whereof I hereunto subscribe my
                            name and affix the Seal of the Circuit Court
    (Seal)               for Caroline County this Seventh day of December
                            Eighteen Hundred and Sixty three

State of Maryland Caroline County to wit:  Whereas Mary E. Sullivan hath made
application to me for a Certificate of her freedom agreeably to law.  And whereas on the affirmation
of Samuel Dunning it hath been proven that said Mary E Sullivan was free
born.  I do therefore grant this Certificate she is about twenty one years of age
four feet six inches high or thereabouts of a dark chesnut Complexion has a
Scar on the top of her right hand near the wrist Caused by the bite of  a Dog and
also a Scar over her left eye.  she has no other notable Marks or Scars
that I have observed
                               In Testimony Whereof I hereto subscribe my name and affix
    (seal)                   the seal of the Circuit Court for Caroline County this seventeenth
                               day of February Eighteen hundred and sixty four
