Caroline County Circuit Court, Certificates of Freedom, 1857-1864

State of Maryland Caroline County to wit:  Whereas George
Washington Shepard hath made application to me for a Certificate
of his freedom agreeably to law:  and whereas on the oath of Jacob Morgan
has been proven that said George Washington Shepard was free born
I do therefore grant this Certificate:  He is now about twenty five years
of age five feet eight and one quarter inches high or thereabouts of a
black Complexion was born and raised in Caroline County & has
no notable marks or scars that I have observed.   In Testimony
whereof I hereunto Subscribe my name and affix the Seal of the
(Seal)   Circuit Court for Caroline County this Seventh day of July
Anno Domini Eighteen Hundred & Sixty
                                                             Robert J Jump Clk
                                                                      of the
                                               Circuit Court for Caroline County


State of Maryland Caroline County to wit:  Whereas Isaac Harriss hath
made application to me for a Certificate of his freedom agreeably to law:
And whereas on the Oath of WIlliam E. Liden hath been proven that said
Isaac Harriss was free born.  I do therefore grant this Certificate:  He is
now about twenty two years of age five feet five inches high or thereabout
of a black Complexion was born and raised in the County and State
aforesaid & has no notable marks or scars that I have observed
(seal)   In Testimony Whereof I hereunto subscribe my name and affix the Seal
of the Circuit Court for Caroline County the Eleventh day of July
Anno Domini Eighteen Hundred and sixty
