Caroline County Circuit Court, Certificates of Freedom, 1857-1864

State of Maryland of Caroline County to wit:   Whereas Greenbury
Satterfield hath made application to me for a certificate of his freedom
agreeably to law:  and whereas on the Oath of Edward S. Wooters hath
been proven that Said Greenbury Satterfield was free born.  I do therefore
grant this certificate.  He is now about twenty nine years of age & of
a black Complexion five feet 7 inches high or thereabout was born
& raised in Caroline County and has no visible marks or
Scars that I have observed
              In Testimony Whereof I hereunto Subscribe my name and affix the
(Seal)   Seal of the Circuit Court for Caroline County this Sixth day of
          March Anno Domini Eighteen Hundred and Sixty
                                                                            Robert J Jump Clerk of the
                                                                            Cir. Ct for Caro. Co.


State of Maryland Caroline County to wit:   Whereas Ann Maria Thomas
hath made application to me for a certificate of her freedom agreeably to law
and whereas on the oath of Spencer Hitch has been proven that said
Ann Maria Thomas was free born and raised in Caroline County and is
now about thirty years of age five feet four inches high or thereabout
of a Mulatto Complexion and has a Scar on the back of her left hand
and has no a knot on the back of her right hand and has no
other mark or Scar that I have observed
              In Testimony whereof I hereunto Subscribe my name and
(Seal)     affix the Seal of the Circuit Court for Caroline County this
              13th day of March Anno Domini 1860
