45 State of Maryland Caroline County to wit; Whereas application hath been made to me by a negro ^coloured man^ named Jefferson Fisher for a certificate of his freedom agreeably to the act of assembly in such case made and provided by which said act free negroes and mulattoes are permitted to travel out of this state upon the obtention of a certificate of being free born: And whereas also upon the oath of William Hardcastle of Caroline county that the said coloured man named Jefferson Rich ^Fisher^ for whom this certificate is made was free born; I do therefore grant his said application and hereby certify that from his own account he is about twenty two years of age five feet six and a half inches high or thereabouts was born and raised in Caroline county of a Brown complexion has a small scar of a burn on the inside of the left arm and just below the bend or joint of the arm and another small scar of a burn on the outer side of the left wrist joint and another large scar of a burn on the hinder part of his left thigh and several small scars about his left hand & both knees and no other notable marks or scars that I have observed (seal) In Testimony whereof I hereto subscribe my name and affix the public seal of my office this 8th day of January Anno Domini 1831 Cost $1.00 Cts Jo Richardson Clk of Caroline County Court State of Maryland Caroline County to wit; Whereas application hath been made to me by a coloured man named Samuel Sharp for a Certificate of his freedom agreeably to the act of assembly in such case made and provided; by which said act free negroes and mulattoes are permitted to travel out of this state upon the obtention of a certificate of being free born and whereas also upon the oath of John Talbott of Caroline County that the said coloured man named Samuel Sharp for whom this certificate is made was free born. I do therefore grant his said application and hereby certify that from his own account he was twenty two years of age the twenty second day of November last five feet five and a quarter inches high or thereabouts was born and raised in Caroline County of a Black complexion has a small scar of a cut on the the right side of his forehead about midway between his eyebrows and the edge of his hair and another small scar a little above his noe between his eyebrows and another tollerable large scar of a burn on the top of his right foot and another scar of a cut on the top of his left foot commencing on the middle toe and extending up the foot and no other notable mark or scars that I have observed In Testimony whereof I hereto subscribe my name and affix the public seal (seal) of my office this 5th day of March Anno Domini 1831 Jo Richardson Clk of Caroline County Court |
