44 negro woman named Charity (now calling herself Charity Allen) having made application to me for a certificate of her freedom agreeably to the act of Assembly in such case made and provided And whereas also upon the oath of Sarah Perry of Caroline County that the said negro woman named Charity (now calling herself Charity Allen) for whom this certificate is made is the same person mentioned in the said manumission. I do therefore grant her said application and hereby certify that from her age as expressed in the said manumission she is about forty one years of age five feet one and three quarter inches high or thereabouts of a bright complexion was born and raised in Caroline County has one small scar on the cheek Bone nearly under the left eye and has the two last fingers on her right hand broke in the second joints and no other notable marks or scars that I have observed (seal) In Testimony whereof I hereto subscribe my name & affix the public seal of my office this 6.th day of November anno Domini 1830 Cost $1.00 Cts Jo Richardson Clk of Caroline County Court State of Maryland Caroline County to wit Whereas application hath been made to me by a negro woman named Sarah Ann Shepherd for a certificate of her freedom agreeably to the act of assembly in such case made and provided by which said act free negroes & mulattoes are permitted to travel out of this State upon the obtention of a certificate of being free born and whereas also upon the oath of Sarah Perry of Caroline County that the said negro woman named Sarah Ann Shepherd for whom this certificate is made was free born I do therefore grant her said application and hereby certify that from her mothers account she is about sixteen years of age five feet one and three quarter inches high or thereabouts of a dark complexion was born in Caroline & raised in Talbott County has a scar on the right side of her neck occasioned by a burn as she says has one other scar on the right shoulder occasioned as she says by a burn has another scar on the inside of the right arm near the elbow has two small scars on the upper part of the left arm between the wrist and elbow and no other notable marks or scars that I have observed (seal) In Testimony whereof I hereto subscribe my name & affix the public seal of my office this 6th day of November Anno Domini 1830 Jo Richardson Clk of Caroline County Court |
