36 State of Maryland Caroline county to wit; Whereas application hath been made to me by a coloured woman named Easter Tilghman for a certificate of her freedom agreeably to the act of assembly in such case made and provided by which said act free negroes and mulattoes are permitted to travel out of this state upon the obtention of a certificate of being free born and whereas also upon the oath of William Potter of Caroline county that the said coloured woman named Easter Tilghman for whom this certificate is made was free born I do therefore grant her said application and hereby certify that according to her mothers account she was nineteen years of age the sixteenth day of may last five feet two inches high or thereabouts was born in Dorchester and raised in Caroline county of a dark mulatto complexion has a ^large^ scar of a burn on her left elbow and two small scars of cuts on the back of her right hand and no other ^notable^ marks or scars that I have observed (seal) In Testimony whereof I hereto subscribe my name and affix the public seal of my office this 14th day of July anno Domini 1830 Cost $1.00 Jo Richardson Clk of Caroline County Court State of Maryland Caroline county to wit; Whereas application hath been made to me by a coloured woman named Ann Tilghman for a certificate of her freedom agreeably to the act of assembly in such case made and provided by which said act free negroes and mulattoes are permitted to travel out of this state upon the obtention of a certificate of being free born; and whereas also upon the oath of William Potter of Caroline county that the said coloured woman named Ann Tilghman for whom this certificate is made was free born; I do therefore grant her said application and hereby certify that according to her mothers account she was sixteen years of age the fifteenth day of september last five feet five and a quarter inches high or thereabouts was born in Dorchester and raised in Caroline county of a bright mulatto complexion has a scar of a burn on the top of her left arm over the elbow joint and no other notable marks or scars that I have observed (seal) In Testimony whereof I hereto subscribe my name and affix the publice seal of my office this 14th day of July anno Domini 1830 Cost $1.00 Jo Richardson Clk of Caroline County Court State of Maryland Caroline County to wit; Whereas heretofore to wit on the twenty ninth day of October in the year of our Lord eighteen hundred and twenty three a certain Matthew Driver by Deed of manumission duly executed acknowledged and recorded among the |
