(seal)   In Testimony whereof I hereto subscribe my name and affix the public seal
           of my office this 2d day of April Anno Domini 1830

State of Maryland Caroline County to wit;  Whereas application hath been made
to me by a coloured woman named Mary Rich for a certificate of her freedom agreeably
to the act of assembly in such case made and provided by which said act free negroes
and mulattoes are permitted to travel out of this state upon the obtention of a
certificate of being free born and whereas also upon the oath of Ann statia Rhodes
of Caroline County that the coloured woman named Mary Rich for whom this
Certificate is made was free born I do therefore grant her said application
and hereby certify that from her mothers account she is about nineteen
years of age five feet four inches high or thereabouts was born and raised
in Caroline County of a dark mulatto or light brown complexion has a small
scar at the outer corner of her right eye brown and no other notable
marks or scars that I have observed

State of Maryland Caroline County to wit;  Whereas heretofore to wit
on the tenth day of February in the year of our Lord eighteen hundred
and ten a certain John Eagle by deed of manumission duly execute acknowledged
and recorded among the Land records of Caroline county did
manumit and set free a certain coloured man named ^Metus^ to be free born and
after the tenth day of February eighteen hundred and twenty and the
said coloured man named Metus having made application to me for a
certificate of his freedom agreeably to the act of assembly in such case
made and provided by which said act free negroes and mulattoes are
permitted to travel out of this state upon the obtention of a a certificate
of being free born and whereas also upon the oath ^of^ Perdue Keets of caroline
County that the said coloured man named Metus for whom this certifi
