Caroline County, Certificates of Freedom, 1827-1857

State of Maryland Caroline County to wit
                               Whereas Minta Wright hath made application
to me for a certificate of her freedom agreeably to law:  and
whereas on the oath of Nathaniel Perry has been proven that
said Minta Wright was free born   I do therefor grant this
certificate is now about 33 years of age five feet five inches
high or there about of a black complexion was born and raised
in Caroline County and has no notable mark or scars that
I have observed
                              In testimony whereof I hereunto subscribe my
    (seal)                  name and affix the seal of the Circuit Court
                              for Caroline County this 21st day of September
                              Anno Domini Eighteen hundred and fifty
                              seven

                               Whereas Sarah Ann Johnson hath made application to
me for a certificate of her freedom agreeably to law       And whereas on the
oath of William M A Liden has been proven that said Sarah Ann
Johnson was free born I do therefore grant this certificate  She is now
about thirty five years of age five feet three & one half inches high or there
about of a chesnutt complexion was born and raised in Caroline
County and has no mark or scar that I have observed
                                  In Testimony whereof I hereunto subscribe my
                                  name and affix the seal of the Circuit
       (Seal)                  Court for Caroline County on this Eleventh day
                                  of November in the year of our Lord Eighteen
                                  hundred and fifty seven
