State of Maryland Caroline County to wit      Whereas George W Winters hath
made application to me for a certificate of his freedom agreeably to law and
whereas on the oath of Thomas Parviss has been proven that said George W
Winters was free born      I do therefore grant this certificate he is now about
twenty four years of age five feet six and one half inches high or thereabout
of a black complexion was born and raised in Caroline County and has
a kind of skab on the third joint of the fore finger on the right hand and
has no other notable marke or scar that I have observed
                      In Testimony Whereof   I hereunto subscribe my name and
    (seal)         affix the seal of the Circuit Court for Caroline County this sixteenth
                      day of November Anno Domini Eighteen hundred
                      and fifty seven
