305 State of Maryland Caroline County to wit. Whereas Samuel Talbot by deed of Manumission recorded on the 29th day of January 1805 did set free a certain negro woman called Lydia; and her issue to be free at the age of 25 years And whereas application hath been made to him by a negro man called Allen Loockerman for a certificate of his freedom. And whereas on the oath of John C. Talbot that the said Allen Loockerman is the issue of the said Lydia & that he is now free I do therefore grant his said application & hereby certify that from his own account he is about 40 years of age 5 feet 9 inches high or thereabouts of a Chesnutt Complexion was born & raised in Caroline County & has a scar over the right eye & no other marks or scars that I have observed In Testimony whereof I hereunto set my (seal) subscribe my name and affix the seal of the Circuit Court for Caroline County this 25th day of March A D 1856 Thomas F Garey Clk State of Maryland Caroline County to wit: Whereas James W Pendleton hath made application to me for a certificate of his freedom according to law And whereas on the oath of W.m G Nicholson has been proven that said negro man was free born. I do therefore grant this Certificate: He is now about 26 years of age 5 feet 8½ inches high or thereabouts of a black complexion was born & raised in Caroline County and has a large scar on his forehead & no other notable marks or scars that I have observed In Testimony whereof I hereunto subscribe my name & affix the seal of the Circuit Court for Caroline County this 15.th day of May A D 1856 Thos F Garey Clk |
